Agility Research has just revealed the conclusions of its survey on the most popular luxury brands among 1,000 buyers in 40 different Chinese cities. From this survey, two brands stand out: Chanel and Dior. These two French luxury brands would be the most preferred by the Chinese population.

In order to conduct the survey, respondents were carefully selected. Selected from China’s upper class, each of the respondents had an annual income of at least 400,000 yuan (about €51,000). And among them, 300 belonged to the “wealthiest” category, with more than a million dollars in assets. They were then asked to rate their favourite brand, based on several parameters such as its influence, the trust it inspires in them and its perceived social responsibility.

As a result of this survey, two brands stood out from the rest and were revealed as the “favourite luxury brand” of the Chinese: Chanel and Dior.

Chanel obtained an extremely high average score, being the first favourite brand of the Chinese, with 99%. Dior came second with 87%. Chanel’s position in the fashion industry in particular earned it this high score. For Dior, it was its influence with customers that contributed to this result. Finally, Hermès closed the podium with a score of 83%, helped by the respondents who highlighted its ease of purchase and recommendations.

In addition, Chanel was also the most cited brand among the 55 names on the Agility Luxury Brand Affinity list.

In fourth place, Estée Lauder, Gucci and Lancôme compete for 77%. The ranking also includes Rolex in seventh place, Cartier in eighth, Louis Vuitton in ninth, and finally Armani in tenth.

The results obtained by Chanel and Dior are not surprising. These firms are respectively in 3rd and 4th place on the list of the favourite perfume brands of the Chinese people. Also, China is one of the main players in the luxury market, representing today a 20% share of sales; and should become the biggest share of this market by 2025.
