The committed Bold Woman Award initiative, inspired by the audacity of Madame Clicquot, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The first edition of this businesswoman’s award will be held in Nigeria. Three finalists are in the running to win.

Created in 1972, the Veuve Clicquot Businesswoman Award, better known as the Bold Woman Award, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022.

The initiative was inspired by the aplomb and perseverance of Madame Clicquot, who in the 19th century became the first woman to run a Champagne House. Years later, the Prize has taken off internationally. 27 subsidiaries of the eponymous House now award their prizes independently. In half a century, more than 450 women entrepreneurs have been honored, from Japan to Australia, from the Netherlands to South Korea.

And for its half-century, the Bold Woman Award arrives for the first time in Africa. And more precisely in Nigeria to reward the impact of female leadership and innovation in Nigeria.

Selected among more than 250 Nigerian businesswomen, Affionf Williams, founder of ReelFruit, Ifedayo Durosinmi-Etti, creator of Herconomy and Ifeoluwa Dare-Johnson, head of Healthtracka are the three finalists of the prestigious Veuve Clicquot Award.

Zoom on these three women, who are revolutionizing the world of Nigerian entrepreneurship.

Affiong Williams founded ReelFruit in 2012. It is the largest fruit processing, packaging and distribution company in Nigeria. As a result, it sells a variety of dried fruits in more than 400 local supermarkets, airlines, schools and hotels in Nigeria but also around the world, including Belgium, Switzerland in the United States and Saudi Arabia.

The agri-businesswoman’s brand has already won a global award for women entrepreneurs in the Netherlands in the past. In 2015, she appeared in Forbes magazine’s “30 Entrepreneurs Under 30” list. And in 2017, she won the Entrepreneur of the Year award from Women in Management, Business and Public Service.

This entrepreneur is in tune with the principles of Maison Clicquot, which was built during a difficult time when women’s place was constantly questioned, “Like Madame Clicquot, I had to look at every challenge and work around it, to continue to grow the company to its full potential.

Ifedayo Durosinmi-Etti is a partner and director of Herconomy, a company focused on connecting women with multiple educational and employment opportunities through scholarships, grants and opportunities. She is a sales and marketing expert with over 10 years of management and leadership experience in fashion and manufacturing.

She is also part of the Africa Startup Initiative (ASIP) accelerator program, which supports African technology startups, and is a recruitment partner with Amazon.

Ifedayo Durosinmi-Etti emphasized the honor of being selected for the Veuve Clicquot Award: “The Bold Woman Award recognizes the work of intrepid women entrepreneurs and also challenges the status quo, calling for higher ethical standards and transformational practices. It will be an absolute honor to showcase not only me, but my brand as one of the Nigerian companies leading the way.

Finally, the third and last finalist of this Nigerian edition is Ifeoluwa Dare-Johnson. She is the founder and CEO of HealthTracka, a health technology startup that decentralizes access to medical diagnostics in Africa. According to her, Africans don’t know their health status because they don’t test to see if they have problems. Ifeoluwa relies on this observation to develop her business. Before starting her business, she worked for many companies as a marketing manager.

The winner will join a long list of bold, intelligent and innovative women honored with this award in 27 countries. The Bold Woman Award winner will also have the pleasure of traveling to Reims for an immersion in the history of the Maison Veuve Clicquot. And she will be making history in women entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
