On June 24, Julien Dossena left the House of Rabanne after thirteen years of loyal service as creative director. His departure came as a bolt from the blue in the midst of Paris Fashion Week.
A new chapter is beginning at Rabanne. The creative director, who shook up the house’s conventions and reinvented its icons, is leaving his teams and closing an important chapter in the brand’s history. The house made the announcement via a press release and an Instagram post, in which it expressed its deep gratitude: “With a unique vision, he redefined the House for a new generation, honoring its radical heritage while opening new avenues of expression, desirability, and innovation.” In a low-key departure, Julien Dossena thanked the Puig Group for the trust and support they provided throughout his thirteen years with them.

To understand the creative director’s fashion and cultural heritage, we need to go back thirteen years. Julien Dossena took the helm at Rabanne in 2013. At the time, he was only thirty years old. A former collaborator of Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, he inherited a fashion house that was then seeking to reclaim its place in contemporary fashion amid increasingly fierce competition.
