Kamshim Lau has been elected President of the International Association of Department Stores (IADS), at the 64ᵉ General Assembly in London. With a wealth of experience, she will lead the organization to new horizons, supported by an international executive committee of retail leaders. This appointment marks a turning point in the 95-year history of IADS.

At the 64ᵉ General Meeting of the International Association of Department Stores (IADS) held in London on November 8, 2023, history was made with the election of Kamshim Lau. She is the association’s first female president since its creation in 1928.

This appointment marks a significant turning point in the 95-year history of IADS.

At the age of 36, Kamshim Lau brings with her a wealth of experience in the retail sector. With a BA from King’s College London and an MA from Columbia University in New York, she has held the position of Executive Director of Lifestyle International Holdings Limited, operating the prestigious Sogo department store in Hong Kong, since 2016.

Community involvement

The new president has already played a crucial role in IADS as vice-president for two consecutive terms, demonstrating a strong partnership with Holger Blecker, CEO of Breuninger GmbH & Co (Germany) and outgoing president. In addition, Kamshim Lau is a member of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Retail Management Association (HKRMA) and of the Retail and Tourism Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

To support Kamshim Lau in his new role, IADS members also elected an executive committee made up of influential figures from the retail world. Holger Blecker (Breuninger GmbH & Co, Germany), Juan Carlos Escribano (El Palacio de Hierro, Mexico), Nicolas Houzé, CEO of Galeries Lafayette (France), and Peter King (Magasin du Nord, Denmark) will work closely together to define IADS’ operational strategy and exclusive services.
