After restaurants, the famous Guide is creating a new distinction for exceptional hotels, the Clé Michelin. The winners of this hotel equivalent to the Michelin Macaron will be announced in September 2024.
The Michelin Guide is an institution founded in 1900 by brothers André and Edouard Michelin, for motorists at a time when information was in short supply.
Nowadays, the opposite is true: people are overwhelmed by the constant flow of information. It was against this backdrop that the Michelin Guide created the Keys, which will be what stars are to gastronomy: a guarantee of excellence.
Before announcing the list of stars in a year’s time, Michelin Guide teams spent four years tracking down 5,300 outstanding hotels in 120 countries potentially eligible for the new seal of approval, the list of which is available on the website.
A new quality label
Who hasn’t had trouble finding the perfect hotel?
The world of travel is saturated with more or less reliable information, not to mention the phenomenon of hyper-standardization of accommodation (design, decoration, attention to detail in the rooms, etc.).
The Michelin Guide has chosen to restore confidence with its new quality label: the Michelin Key. It offers a selection of establishments developed independently of existing labels, with no pre-established quotas.
For the traveler, this means no more recommendations of convenience or ill-intentioned anonymous reviews.
The aim is to arouse the emotions of travellers who already trust the Michelin Guide, or who are looking for sound, verified advice, by directing them towards accommodation with character. The kind of places that offer more than just a room for a night.
In other words, it’s all about highlighting establishments with strong personalities that deserve to be (re)known for their excellence in areas as diverse as architectural design and craftsmanship.
