The Michelin Guide has unveiled its first-ever “Michelin keys” awards. This distinction rewards hotel establishments following the same model as the stars awarded to restaurants.
For the first time since its creation, the Michelin Guide now rewards the hotel industry. In addition to its famous stars for the best gastronomic establishments, the institution will annually award its Michelin keys to exceptional hotels. The allocation model is the same as that applied to restaurants: one key for a “singular stay,” two keys for an “exceptional stay,” and three keys for an “extraordinary stay.”
Teams of Michelin guide inspectors have anonymously stayed in over 5,000 establishments worldwide to compile this prestigious list. Their evaluation is based on five criteria of excellence: architecture and interior design, quality of service, personality and character, value for money, and contribution to the local experience.
On Monday, April 8, the Michelin Guide unveiled its list of French hotels. In total, 189 establishments were honored. 24 hotels achieved the feat of obtaining three keys, 38 obtained two keys, and another 127 obtained one key.
