Since 2014, the Institut des Métiers d’Excellence, part of Bernard Arnault’s LVMH group, has been training apprentices in the luxury trades. Alexandre Bocquel, director of development for the Métiers d’Excellence at LVMH, believes that this institute is an undeniable success.

The LVMH Group’s Institut des Métiers d’Excellence opened its doors in 2014 with the aim of training new apprentices in the luxury trades in an appropriate setting, while valuing commitment, teamwork and the transmission of know-how by professionals to a new generation. “At the beginning, when we opened, we only had a few dozen students, at most,” says Alexandre Bocquel, Director of Development for the Professions of Excellence within the LVMH group. “Over the years, the success of the Institute has become increasingly clear. Now we have several hundred students. And not only young people, but also adults who want to change direction and learn a manual trade.”

The success of the Institut des Métiers d’Excellence of the LVMH group is not only based on its name, quite the contrary. Over the years, the Institute has succeeded in developing high-quality training programs based on sharing and dialogue between the generations. “Our apprentices are trained by very experienced craftsmen,” explains Alexandre Bocquel. This not only allows for a complete and high quality training, but also a more important follow-up.”

The Institut des Métiers d’Excellence has also opted for internationalisation. In this sense, several partnerships with schools abroad, whether in Germany, Italy, Spain or Switzerland have been concluded. “We choose our partners abroad carefully, we first study how we can work with them, and what we can bring to each other“, explains Alexandre Bocquel. “Developing our international offer allows our students to benefit from the know-how and codes used in neighbouring countries, and to reappropriate them so that they can progress even further.”

The strength of our institute is that it offers training programmes in an impressive variety of luxury professions, whether in leather goods or jewellery, and even in sales,” explains Alexandre Bocquel. “With such diversity in our offer, we attract apprentices from all walks of life, with different ambitions. Everyone can find what suits them at our institute, and everyone is welcome.”

The Institut des Métiers d’Excellence of the LVMH Group aims to be a leading training centre for the luxury and craft trades. Thanks to training that combines both theory and practice, the Institute enables its apprentices to make the most of their entry into the world of work by developing their talent, their expertise and therefore their employability.
