To compile its list of the world’s most expensive seaside destinations, the specialist magazine Travel Mag studied the prices of hotels with a minimum of three stars located close to the beach. The ranking includes mainly American and European destinations.
Travelmag, the magazine specializing in tourism and travel, published a study in early August listing the world’s most expensive seaside destinations.
The study included all global destinations with at least 20 hotels and inns, as well as at least one beach. In each location, TravelMag.com calculated the average rate for the cheapest double room available in August 2023. Only hotels rated three stars or higher and located close to the city center or the beach were included in the analysis.
Top of the list is Nantucket Town, USA, located on Nantucket Island, south of Cape Cod, where the cost is 694 dollars per night. Positano, located on the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy, comes in second with a rate of $481 per night. Montauk, a village on the Long Island peninsula (USA), came third, with an average rate of $478 per night for the cheapest double room.
American and European destinations
The USA accounts for 11 of the 20 most expensive coastal destinations according to TravelMag’s survey, while the other nine are located in Europe. These include Nantucket Town, Kennebunkport, Provincetown, Bar Harbor and Portland, representing a total of five destinations in the New England region.
