Milan Fashion Week ended on Monday 27 February. Sensuality, elegance and nostalgia were the order of the day in the designers’ fall/winter 2023-2024 collections. Here are the fashion shows that have marked us…

Milan Fashion Week ended yesterday, after having offered us a week of dream. For the occasion, many fashion houses dazzled us with spectacular shows. Here’s what we remembered from this great week:

Inspiration from the past

Gucci brought back the past for its women’s fashion show held last Friday. The Italian luxury house’s creative team revisited their glamorous and colorful looks from the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. This eclectic mix was reminiscent of silhouettes imagined by former designers like Tom Ford and Frida Giannini. “The Gucci Fall Winter 2023 women’s collection connects the creative cultures that cross-pollinate the House’s history in an evocative yet contemporary proposal”, read the show notes.

The show opened with a model wearing a tiny metallic bikini top, a long black satin pencil skirt and gloves. This was followed by androgynous pants, faux fur coats in lilac, blue, fuchsia and yellow, accessorized with shoes or bags with silver bangs. Tights, red, orange, lime and pale blue, new versions of the Gucci loafer also spiced up the show. Which was appreciated by the public, if we are to believe the loud applause of the audience given to the creative team.

The show marked the transition before Sabato De Sarno takes over as creative director later this year and presents his first collection for Gucci in September. The House parted ways with its star designer, Alessandro Michele, last November due to poor sales.

Comfort fashion

At Tod’s, creative director Walter Chiapponi was keen to offer a collection that meets the expectations of today’s active woman, who is looking for comfortable fashion. Full marks for the Italian luxury brand whose collection entitled “Italian Feeling” comes in shades of brown, dark green, camel and cream. With materials such as leather, suede, velvet and faux fur, the designer has created functional officewear pieces with a refined look.

Models walked the runway in long oversized coats, fitted blazers with epaulets or long knitted dresses. No stilettos were tolerated, only ankle boots, moccasins and ballerinas. Chiapponi finally finished the show with several striped looks in suits and dresses. “The idea was to return to sobriety, with a certain rigidity in the construction”, the designer told reporters.

But if the pieces presented have seduced fashion lovers, the choice of models has also made its effect. Tod’s called on the iconic Frenchwoman Laetitia Casta, who had not walked the runway since Ralph Lauren’s fall-winter 2022-2023 presentation in New York. In a long oversized black trench coat with white stripes, a black handbag with gold details and flat boots, the model has largely seduced the public by closing the show of the Italian brand.

Kim Kardashian influence

Black dominated the catwalk at the Dolce & Gabbana show at Milan Fashion Week on Saturday. In a collection entitled “Sensual”, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana opened their fall-winter 2023-2024 show with a sheer black dress accessorized with a fur collar and black gloves. The designers then put on a show with models in pantsuits and coats, alongside transparent dresses, sometimes embroidered with lace. To keep with the theme, short black jackets and pants were worn with white shirts and black ties. “Sensuality is an important aspect of femininity that has nothing to do with being sexy”, the two designers said in the show notes.

In the front row, Kim Kardashian, whose current campaign with Dolce & Gabbana was everywhere in the city of fashion, could admire a collection that reinterprets and reproduces the iconic models that have marked the history of the brand. And the American personality is not for nothing. “Working with Kim helped us go back to our heritage, our memories and our previous collections”, says Domenico Dolce, referring to their collaboration last season. This is one reason why suits and lingerie dresses are now a major part of the collection. But Dolce & Gabbana didn’t stop with black and also presented shiny creations in gold and silver, as well as a selection of red looks from head to toe, including outfits, tights and shoes. Drawing on influences from the last century, the collections were adorned with crystals and black feathers on the collars.

Finally, another star in the making – Deva Cassel – stood out on the catwalk of the Italian luxury house. The daughter of Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci was dressed in a strapless dress of transparent black veil, with long gloves, hair pulled back and red mouth. His passage has made the pride of his two famous parents, who have not failed to relay photos and videos of the parade on social networks.
