German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has begun a recall of nearly one million vehicles worldwide. The cause? A potential problem in the brake system detected.
In a statement released on Wednesday June 1, by the German manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz explains that it is the brake servo present on these cars that is at fault, a braking system that assists the driver to reduce his effort when braking.
The German Federal Transport Authority (KBA), for its part, gave further details on the problem: “Corrosion of the brake servo can, in the worst case, cause a break in the connection between the brake pedal and the braking system. In this case, the service brake may stop working,” he said. In order to avoid endangering the lives of drivers, the brand preferred to recall all affected vehicles.
Exactly 993,407 vehicles are affected by this recall and an alert has been launched in all countries of the world. Mercedes-Benz has also started to directly contact the owners of the potentially affected vehicles.
Finally, the brand has finally clarified that it is the models dating from the years 2004 to 2015 and in particular the SUV, ML and GL series as well as the R-Class luxury minivans that are affected.
