Luxus Magazine: focus on Coralie Charriol, a rare female luxury watchmaking executive

To coincide with Watches and Wonders 2024, which takes place from April 9 to 15, Luxus+ brings you a reprint of the autumn-winter issue of Luxus Magazine featuring the Maison Charriol. Throughout the pages, you’ll discover how CEO Coralie Charriol has modernized the watchmaking house founded by her father in 1983. A limited edition delivered with our Luxury Journals #5 for all annual subscriptions up to and including April 16.

Charriol, the most Tropezian of Swiss watchmakers, has just celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023 with its new St-Tropez Navigator line. He chose Luxus Magazine for an exclusive interview conducted on the occasion of the Watches & Wonders trade show.

To be found in our revisited edition of the latest Luxus Magazine quarterly, included in our promotional offer valid until Tuesday April 16 inclusive.

Gold, sun and sea

The Swiss watch brand founded in 1983 by Philippe Charriol is back at Watches & Wonders. A lifestyle house offering 18k gold watches and jewelry, as well as accessories (eyewear, perfumes), Charriol is characterized by three unmistakable signatures: twisted cables, an immersive narrative for each of its models , and the sun.

The company, which has just celebrated its fortieth anniversary, is showcasing its new St-Tropez Navigator range, launched to mark the occasion. True to its mantra “Live different”, the collection is a tribute to the pleasure and luxury of the seaside.

Its current manager, Coralie Charriol, wanted “a watch for the weekend warrior. Something she could wear in a boardroom as well as on the waves”.

The St-Tropez Navigator collection comprises three lines -Surf, Cruise and GMT- reflecting a commitment to innovation and flair.

But the Maison’s big innovation is undoubtedly a new kind of skeleton watch. While these exposed timepieces, revealing the intricate workings of a state-of-the-art mechanism, are traditionally aimed at a male clientele, women have been virtually sidelined by the sector until now.

But that was without counting on the St-Tropez 36′ Calibre Skeleton. This is a skeleton model with a bezel set with 36 full-cut white diamonds totaling 2 carats, equipped witha Swiss Sellita movement and limited to around 30 pieces. The Skeleton by Charriol follows in the footsteps of the Navigator collection, with a DLC-coated stainless steel link bracelet featuring a quick-release interchangeable bracelet system. A talisman watch, in memory of her late father who launched a first model thirty years earlier in collaboration with Renaud & Papi.

A rare leader in the land of watches

While Luxus Magazine features Timothée Chalamet, star of the blockbuster Dune (Denis Villeneuve version) and icon of genderfluid style among gen z, he is joined on the front cover by Coralie Charriol. Luxus Magazine features one of the all-too-rare watch brands headed by a woman.

Both CEO and Artistic Director, Coralie Charriol has faced many challenges. In addition to her mission to modernize and respond to the pandemic, she had to take over the family business after the death of her father and founder, Philippe Charriol, in 2019.

In our interview, you’ll discover how she carries on the brand’s heritage, her sources of inspiration, her vision of watchmaking for the younger generation and her passion for surfing.
