The 1990s will experience the release of several watches on which you can send messages or connect to a computer. However, it was not until the 2010s and the popularization of smartphones that the first “smartwatches” appeared.
More recently, seeing that the market for connected watches and bracelets is becoming more and more flourishing, the idea of a connected ring is born. Namely, the consulting firm Counterpoint Research has recorded a record year of 2021 for the global connected watch market: a growth of 24% from 2020.
Ōura, the market leader in the connected ring
While many companies have taken advantage of the connected ring boom to launch their own models, one company largely stands out from the rest: Ōura; with its Ring Gen3.
Imagined as a ring of all things normal, it nevertheless hides a revolutionary technology in a thin ring. The Ōura Ring Gen3 claims to be “adaptable to your life”. Sold at a price of 314€, it works like a connected watch. It is capable of measuring heart rate, sleep, has 4 to 7 days of autonomy and declares itself lighter than a classic ring thanks to the material in which it was thought: light titanium.
The other advantage of these rings? Their discretion. And during a sporting effort, not feeling weighed down or disturbed by a watch, for example, is paramount.
Gucci X Ōura: a collaboration for a luxury connected ring
Gucci’s house, aware of the future of high-tech and new technologies as with its forays into the metaverse and NFT, is now entering the connected objects market. In particular, it has unveiled a connected ring in collaboration with Ōura.

Just like the Gen3, it monitors your sleep (its sleep monitoring function is currently one of the most reliable on the market), measures your heart rate and body temperature. Nothing has been left to chance to enable optimal monitoring of your health and well-being throughout the day and night. In addition, it features Gucci’s iconic GG monogram in 18K gold on its circumference. Its price? 884 €.
What does the future hold for the connected ring industry?
As the first luxury house to unveil a connected ring, companies had somewhat abandoned the connected ring market in recent years, seeing much more demand for its main competitor: watches and bracelets.
However, the trend of connected rings seems to be making a comeback, which will probably be driven in the next few years by the arrival of Ōura and Gucci in this sector. In particular, the giant Apple has revealed that it has filed a patent on a mysterious connected ring capable of controlling devices remotely, just like FitBit.
