This week, various players in the luxury industry announced price increases for some of their products. This is particularly the case for Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co and Bulgari.

Also the house Chanel has just announced in a press release, an increase of from 5% to 17% on a selection of leather goods and small leather goods. “The price adjustments only concern the iconic Chanel handbags, the ’11 .12 ‘and’ 2.55 ‘, as well as the’ Boy ‘,’ Gabrielle ‘,’ Chanel 19 ‘bags and certain small leather goods” , clarified the French label.

A means to offset the increase in the cost of raw materials during the crisis caused by the coronavirus, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, in South Korea, the labels Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co and Bulgari have also increased their prices on limited editions, according to Pulse News Korea.

Indeed, on May 14, Louis Vuitton in Korea would have increased its prices by 5 to 6% on average on certain bags, clothes and accessories.

The largest increase observed of up to 10%. The media said it was the brand’s third price increase in just seven months, after average increases in March of 3 to 4 percent.

The same day, the jewelry brands Tiffany & Co and Bulgari, saw the price of their products take off by 11%.

Considered a way to take advantage of Korean consumers after a softening of social distancing measures, these price increases have been the subject of much criticism, as well as a large crowd movement in the country. Consumers have rushed to shops in the hope of being able to access luxury goods before the latter are affected by these upgrades.

The big brands justify this general increase in prices because of a price policy specific to each company, fluctuating exchange rates but also the increase in the cost of raw materials during the pandemic.
