This year, W Hotels, Marriott’s festive and experiential luxury brand, made its debut in Brazil. Its entry into this key Latin American market was marked by two openings: the W São Paulo and W Residences São Paulo.
The year of COP 30 in Belém saw the opening of two establishments belonging to the American hotel brand W on Brazilian soil, specifically in São Paulo.
These two openings, located in the same building, demonstrate W Hotels’ commitment to offering unique experiences that constantly push the boundaries while celebrating the very essence of a destination renowned for being both dynamic and cultural.
The beating heart of Brazil
While Rio de Janeiro is Brazil’s former economic capital, São Paulo has well and truly taken over as both its financial and economic capital.
And tourism is no longer the sole preserve of the Marvelous City with its sandy beaches, carnival, and monumental statue of Christ the Redeemer, classified as a historical monument since 1973 and designed by Oscar Niemeyer. An architect who is also responsible for the modernity of Brasilia, the country’s true administrative capital since 1960.
São Paulo, the largest city in the country and in Latin America with more than 21 million inhabitants (2020), once known mainly for its dynamism, is home to many museums such as the MASP (Museu de Arte de São Paulo), the Museu Afro Brasil, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and the Museu Paulista (Ipiranga).
In recent years, São Paulo, which has benefited from the migration of service sector jobs, has become increasingly attractive to both residents and visitors.
Thanks to its geographical location in the heart of Vila Olímpia, the W São Paulo, a luxurious and stylish establishment, offers a breathtaking view of the city’s rooftops and the Pinheiros River from the 25th floor of the building. Above all, this new address reflects the culture of the city, both through its nearby tourist attractions and its culinary offerings, with two restaurants and three bars.
Specifically, the 179-room establishment (including 16 suites) is equipped with an AWAY spa, a FIT gym, and a WET Deck with an outdoor pool. A silent witness to the city’s economic dynamism, the W São Paulo also houses five event spaces, including the 400-square-meter Great Room.
The luxury hotel also offers 216 W-branded residences, available in five distinct categories, from the second to the twenty-second floor. Residents can enjoy a wide variety of high-end amenities, including an indoor pool, two saunas, a relaxation area, a state-of-the-art fitness center, co-working spaces and areas dedicated to children, as well as a reception room, delivering a high-end living experience in the heart of the Brazilian city.
“With the opening of W São Paulo, we are not just launching a new hotel: W Hotels is immersing itself in the energy of one of the most dynamic cities in the world,” said George Fleck, senior vice president and global brand director for W Hotels.
The W brand has been signaling its intention to establish a presence in Brazil since 2018.
It should be noted that W São Paulo is not the brand’s first hotel in Latin America. After opening its first property in Chile in August 2009 (W Santiago), the American hotelier has also established itself in Mexico (W Mexico City and W Punta de Mita), Colombia (W Bogota), and Costa Rica (W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal).
