The Pinault family extends its media influence with the acquisition of a stake in Le 1 Hebdo. This acquisition follows that of Royalement Vôtre, publisher of Point de Vue magazine, last January, strengthening the Pinault family’s presence in the media sector.
Artémis, the Pinault family’s holding company, has acquired a substantial stake in the weekly “Le 1”, marking a further expansion of its media empire.
Eric Fottorino, founder of “Le 1”, announced on Wednesday March 13 that Artémis had acquired a 40% stake in the weekly. Launched in 2014, without advertising, this offers a single topic each week, deciphered by specialists.
The transaction was announced in the latest weekly newsletter, La Lettre.
“This week, Le 1 hebdo welcomes Artémis, the asset holding company of Mr. François Pinault, to its capital,” the newspaper announced. “Artémis thus takes over the shares of Mr. Henry Hermand, co-founder of Le 1 hebdo, who passed away in 2016, and his heirs, who have continued to support our title.”
Launched in 2014, “Le 1 Hebdo” remains 60% majority-owned by its founders, comprising Eric Fottorino, Natalie Thiriez and the family of the late Laurent Greilsamer.
Artémis, founded in 1992, thus extends its media portfolio, which already includes the right-wing weekly “Le Point”. The holding company has a majority stake in French luxury conglomerate Kering, whose iconic brands include Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga. It also owns the prestigious Christie’s auction house, as well as several wineries and sports investments, including Ligue 1 soccer club Stade Rennais.
