[STOCK MARKET UPDATE] Thanksgiving calms markets as they await key monetary signals

With Wall Street closed for Thanksgiving, European stock markets are trading without any clear direction. Expectations surrounding the Fed’s upcoming decision and the publication of the ECB’s minutes are nevertheless causing some fluctuations in global markets.

 

European stock markets began Thursday’s session without any real direction in the absence of a clear driver, with Wall Street remaining closed.

 

At the opening this morning, Paris was down 0.08%, London was down 0.10% and Zurich was down 0.15%, while Frankfurt (+0.02%) and Milan (-0.04%) were virtually unchanged.

 

Europe without Wall Street

 

The closure of US markets for Thanksgiving set the tone for the day : caution prevailed and fluctuations remained limited. In Paris, while the CAC 40 remained virtually unchanged after its rebound the previous day, the EuroStoxx 50 lost slightly ground, mirroring the major European indices, all torn between the absence of US benchmarks and the imminence of new monetary policy signals.
