Watchmaker Patek Philippe announces the completion of its new production building in Geneva, which will begin in 2015, and unveils a limited edition commemorative timepiece for this purpose.
Patek Philippe signs the completion of the construction work begun in July 2015 for its Manufacture and the entry into service of this new building known as PP6.
A large-scale project
This architectural work in a very contemporary style is a major project for the Swiss watchmaker: 189 metres long, 67 metres wide and 34 metres high above ground, with ten levels, four of which are underground. Its impressive dimensions are enhanced by large glazed surfaces and passageways in white polished concrete, giving it the appearance of an ocean liner.
A symbolic building, since it is built on the site of Plan-les-Ouates, at the gateway to Geneva, pleasantly nicknamed “Plan-les-Watches”, where the former president had already erected a factory in 1996.
A place where all Patek Philippe’s know-how meets.
The purpose of the building is to bring together all the company’s Geneva workshops in one place and to anticipate its growth over the next 20-30 years. It is also a central place for the high crafts and training.
The manufactory is therefore a prime location for optimising production and the know-how of the master watchmaker.
The ground floor and first floor are dedicated to the manufacture and manual finishing of the movement components (plates, bridges, gears, etc.). The second floor is dedicated to the machining, polishing, manual finishing and assembly of clothing components (cases, bracelets) as well as setting. The third floor houses various production-related entities such as research & development in the field of new materials and new technologies (Patek Philippe Advanced Research), a fine watchmaking workshop and a new prototyping unit. Finally, the fourth floor provides the space necessary for the development and transmission of all these fine crafts that Patek Philippe is committed to preserving.
Designed to meet High Energy Performance (HPE) standards, investments for this building amount to CHF 500 million for the building and CHF 100 million for the fittings and avant-garde technical equipment.
A commemorative timepiece
The brand is accustomed to marking important dates in its history by issuing commemorative pieces in limited series, so to celebrate this architectural gem, Patek Philippe has created an exclusive Calatrava watch in steel with an original design.
This Calatrava reference 6007A-001 with its highly graphic style is distinguished by its textured centre with a “carbon” motif, a nod to the high-tech spirit of the Manufacture. It has a calfskin strap with white woven effect stitching and a sapphire crystal caseback decorated with the Calatrava cross and the inscription “New Manufacture 2019”, the date on which the first units were installed in the new building.
