The General Secretary of the LVMH group, Marc-Antoine Jamet, has succeeded Jean-Noël Reinhardt as the President of the Comité Champs-Élysées, the association of 200 public and private players present on the most beautiful avenue in the world.
Jean-Noël Reinhardt, who had held this position since 2007, announced on 31 May to the newspaper Le Parisien that he wanted to leave his post.
Expressing “regrets” about his departure, Marc-Antoine Jamet nevertheless declared that he wished to “embody an open presidency that listens to everyone, in the diversity of our activities, our sizes, our origins, both public and private, in the service of the collective that we form” .
Upgrading of the Champs-Élysées
In his plans, Jamet wants to make the Champs-Élysées avenue even more luxurious. Even though only 15 of the 90 shops on the avenue are currently luxury shops, there are plans to open new ones.
While the famous boutiques on the Champs-Élysées such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari or Cartier still remain, several new boutiques for haute-couture, high-end furniture and even a hotel will soon appear.
In the group of future luxury boutiques to come on the Champs, we can find Moncler. It will take the place of the former Nespresso boutique, closed since the end of October 2020, and located at number 119. It will thus have a total space of 1500 square metres.
The second boutique to come: Yves Saint Laurent. With nearly 2,500 square metres, its arrival has been authorised by the Commission Départementale d’Aménagement Commercial (CDAC). It should therefore be located at number 126 of the avenue, opposite the mythical Louis Vuitton shop.
Finally, the third and most expected arrival is the Christian Dior boutique. It will take the place of the former HSBC bank headquarters, and will therefore be next to the Louis Vuitton boutique. Currently covered with a trompe-l’oeil tarpaulin, the future Dior boutique will have 1,500 square metres to welcome its future customers.
Restoration Hardware: the future luxury furniture company on the Champs-Élysées
The American company will open its first shop in Europe, and will be located at the number 23 on the Champs-Élysées avenue. The company will take over the Abercrombie & Fitch shop. Located in a private mansion, the shop was inaugurated in 2011 and was a great success. However, following successive confinements in several countries around the world, the A & F group has decided to close several of its department stores. The one on the Champs-Élysées is naturally one of them. It should also be noted that Restoration Hardware is likely to take over several of the former Abercrombie shops.
Covering more than 10,000 square metres, the future Restoration Hardware shop is likely to further strengthen its position in the high-end furniture sector. A major player in this sector, the American company has achieved annual sales in excess of 2.6 billion dollars (2.13 billion euros).
A new luxury hotel in the pipeline
Finally, a new luxury hotel So by Sofitel is due to open on the avenue in the next few years. It will have 100 rooms and will be located at number 50 of the avenue.
“A new stage has been reached in the last three or four years. The real estate companies have undertaken to restructure their buildings in order to preserve the commercial attractiveness of the avenue and its new commercial surfaces, which are increasingly qualitative, are attracting top-of-the-range brands wishing to dramatise their offer. This phenomenon accelerates the upmarket trend observed over the last ten years” , explains Jean Noël Reinhardt, the former president of the Champs Elysées committee.
Far from being a new phenomenon, Jamet continues to strengthen the commercial appeal of the most beautiful avenue in the world, despite the lack of foreign tourists due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
The avenue, which attracted 100,000 tourists daily in 2019, is likely to see its frequentation return thanks to the aforementioned ongoing projects, as soon as the borders reopen on a global scale.
