Kamala Harris visits Paris to act Franco-American reconciliation

Kamala Harris, the American vice-president, is visiting France from 9 to 13 November. This visit is part of the rebuilding of trust between France and the United States, which was damaged by the submarine crisis in last September.
The five-day diplomatic visit symbolizes the White House’s desire to finally turn the page on the tumultuous relationship that has existed between the two countries since the announcement of a new defence alliance around the US in the Pacific, which led to the breakdown of a huge Australian submarine contract initially promised to France.
Kamala Harris is not the first member of the Biden administration to travel to Paris to ease relations. Before her, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan made the trip. President Joe Biden also met with Emmanuel Macron at the French Embassy in Rome ten days ago.
The American vice-president will be received this Wednesday 10 November at the Elysée Palace by the French president. During this meeting, the Indo-Pacific, European security, but also global health will be discussed. A strengthening of cooperation between France and the United States in the field of space should also be one of the subjects of the discussions, according to a joint statement issued on the occasion of the meeting between Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron in Rome.
The American vice-president is also expected to take part in the ceremonies commemorating the 1918 armistice ending the First World War on 11 November. On the same day, she will take part in the Paris Peace Forum, organised by Emmanuel Macron. A visit to the Pasteur Institute and participation in the international conference on Libya are also on the agenda.
