Italian jeweler Roberto Coin recently funded the restoration of the Casino Venier, a true gem of 18th-century Venice, thereby restoring the current headquarters of the Alliance Française in Venice to its former glory.
Roberto Coin announced in early March that he had undertaken the restoration of the Casino Venier in Venice. This was a way for the Italian goldsmith to step in to save another gem of romanticism and reaffirm his identity, which is closely tied to the Veneto region where his workshop was founded exactly 30 years ago.
The funds invested in this ambitious project have not been made public.
One of the last remaining ridotti
In the heart of the Mercerie district, just a few steps from the Baretteri Bridge, Venice still harbors many hidden gems, witnesses to a romanticized 18th century that continues to attract more and more visitors eager to explore the places once frequented by the incorrigible seducer, Giacomo Casanova.
The Casino Venier is what is known as a ridotti, one of those private salons that once clustered around the famous St. Mark’s Square.
