Jean-Paul Gaultier, fashion’s enfant terrible, teams up with Hollywood shoe designer Jimmy Choo for a capsule collection of sexy, punk shoes. Announced last September, this creative partnership also features singer Kylie Minogue as the face of this UFO collection.
The new Jean-Paul Gaultier x Jimmy Choo capsule collection is available in selected boutiques and online.
It revisits archive pieces from the Parisian fashion house, adapting them to contemporary tastes.
To embody this graphic and transgressive collection, the creative duo called on Australian pop star Kylie Minogue.
Jean-Paul Gaultier is no stranger to collaborations. In September, it teamed up with the unstructured, corset-loving London ready-to-wear label KNWLS, while its haute couture collection was produced with cutting-edge labels Sacai and Y/Project.
Two style icons
First and foremost, it’s a story of icons. On the one hand, the enfant terrible of fashion, whose rock-influenced style marked the period from 1976 to 2020, and on the other, a Malaysian-born British designer whose sleek, sensual shoes were snapped up by it-girls from the late 1990s onwards.
It’s also a story of femininity, as both Houses have two women at the head of their creative teams, Florence Tétier and Sandra Choi. Two figures sharing a vision of the powerful, confident and glamorous woman.
Speaking to Vogue, Florence Tétier, Artistic Director of the Parisian fashion house since 2021, talked about the challenge of the collaboration: to find the perfect pair of shoes to complement the designer’s iconic silhouette, in a word “to bring the final touch to the Jean-Paul Gaultier woman.”
The codes dear to Jean-Paul Gaultier are reflected in six pairs of exclusive shoes, from corsetry-inspired details to tattoos and London punk insolence. It’s all interwoven with the sophistication and British glamour of Jimmy Choo.
The press release refers to this capsule collection as a “glamorous rebellion”.
