The French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, founder of the fashionable eponymous brand, gave an appointment yesterday in the Camargue in a magical setting for “Le Papier”, his fall-winter 2022-2023 fashion show.

Originally from the south of France and a great lover of his native region, some had predicted that Jacquemus was preparing a spectacular show in Provence; although they did not expect such an idyllic landscape.

The designer has therefore unveiled this Monday, June 27, the setting in which he imagined his show “The Paper”. The show took place a few kilometers from Arles, in the unique and lunar setting of the salt field of Salin de Giraud.

I wanted something Provencal, but without falling into the cliché, the beach, the sea … I wanted a minimalist spirit, raw, poetic and lunar. We had to be on Mars while being at home, in the South. The idea was also to have a hyper immersive fashion show that could disappear,” says the designer. So it was only natural, after his fashion shows in a field of lavender in Valensole and wheat near Paris, that he fell in love with the pink lake bordering the white hills of the salt field in the town of Salin de Giraud.

When models blend into the scenery

Known for its collections or bags, sometimes, extravagant colors, Jacquemus has honored here his trademark: neutral tones, white beige, as well as black. Hence the name of his fashion show. “I arrived at the studio, and I said ‘I want to start from scratch’. Like a white beach, to start telling stories again! I wanted very comfortable pieces too, santon, bomba … Jacquemus!” he then tells.

However, this parade also has a symbolic dimension. Engaged since June to Marco Maestri and about to get married in August, this show pays tribute to materials, fabrics and clothing emblematic of marriage. Between tulles, drapes, trains, white dresses and lace, a lightness was felt through his creations, which fit perfectly in the timeless setting chosen for this fashion show.

Moreover, Jacquemus honored the linen, this luxurious fiber, which was found on many models men and women together. 70 monochrome silhouettes have then paraded one after another in front of an intimate audience of celebrities such as Victoria Beckham or Tina Kunakey accompanied by her husband Vincent Cassel.

The collection is now available on the Jacquemus website, the designer has also unveil today, Tuesday June 28, the pieces created in collaboration with Nike! The campaign, embodied by the British singer Jorja Smith, also reflects the trademark of the French label: neutral tones, beige, white and black.
