In partnership with Porsche, the Chinese giant Huawei is releasing a limited edition luxury smartphone: the Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Design.

The Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Design was officially unveiled by the technology giant, and is a luxury version of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ smartphone.

This limited edition is distinguished by its ceramic shell, 100x digital zoom and infrared sensor. It is sold for €2295, nearly €900 more than the Pro+.

Yesterday, Huawei announced the release of the Huawei Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro+ smartphones. Only the Mate 40 Pro will be available in France. Qualified as high-end, the smartphone will be priced at €1,199. In the same vein, the Chinese firm revealed the Mate 40 Pro+, a higher edition of the Mate 40 Pro, for a price of €1,399.

As is the case every year, Huawei announced that these releases will be accompanied by a special edition in partnership with luxury car manufacturer Porsche. This high-end collaboration, the Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Design, will be produced in very limited quantities.

The luxury variant obviously shares many similarities with the Mate 40 Pro+. The Mate 40 RS Porsche Design is built around a 6.76-inch 90 Hz OLED display with ultra-curved edges. The smartphone developed by Porsche stands out from the other variants in the range thanks to its improved camera, consisting of 5 photo sensors. The smartphone differs from the Mate 40 Pro+ only thanks to the addition of a new sensor, the 8 megapixel module (f/4.4). Thanks to this module, the camera provides a 100x digital zoom, absent from the Mate 40 Pro+.

This deluxe edition also includes an infrared sensor. The infrared sensor technology is already integrated in the Huawei Honor Play 4 Pro, a mid-range smartphone, sold in China for less than 400€.

What differentiates the Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Design from other smartphones of the brand is its design. On the back, there is an octagonal shaped camera that differs slightly from the more circular camera, the “Space Ring Design” found on the other Mate 40.

In addition, the smartphone has a ceramic dress, a high-end material that is much more resistant than glass to falls. The edition is available in white or black. Ceramic is a material increasingly used by manufacturers, and last year Samsung unveiled the high-end Galaxy S10, made entirely of ceramic. The Apple giant also offers Apple Watch with a ceramic shell.

Huawei smartphones are available for sale here.
