#FashionWeekQuarantine: What to remember about Bridal Fashion Week in New York!

The Bridal Fashion Week in New York, dedicated to the new bridal dress collections, was scheduled to take place from 16 to 20 April 2020. However, the CFDA (Council of American Fashion Designers) cancelled all the fashion shows due to the health crisis, forcing designers to review the way they present their collections.

The epidemic has complicated everyone’s daily life, especially that of fashion designers: shops closed, airports blocked, fabrics untraceable, not to mention the manufacturers who had to take a break, forced. The established social distancing finally made it impossible to produce or participate in fashion shows.

And the unfolding of the events unfortunately gave designers only one month to complete their collections, develop a new strategy, conceptualize a video or digital presentation, and share it with the press, buyers and clients.

As a result, few of them managed to finalize their collections on time. Amsale, Viktor & Rolf and Sahroo, for example, were able to pull out all the stops this season.

Viktor & Rolf, the avant-garde duo

Founded in 1993 by Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, the Viktor&Rolf brand belonging to the OTB Group is known for its avant-garde, inventive and daring creations.

Viktor&Rolf’s bridal collections offer reinvented wedding dresses. From larger-than-life ball gowns with many floral applications to playful mini dresses with beads.

This season, the Viktor&Rolf Bridal Collection is produced in collaboration with Justin Alexander.

The collection was inspired by opulent classic gardens and floral arrangements. It includes floral ball gowns and oversized graphic bows, but also silhouettes ranging from mermaids to empire waists and asymmetrical kaftans.

Like all the others, the brand was unable to organize an official presentation of this collection due to the pandemic.

So it works with journalists through photos and remote interviews.

The Amsale Virtual Lodge

This wedding label created by Amsale Aberra, a designer of Ethiopian origin, who died in 2018, relies heavily on the authenticity of her creations.

Modern and sophisticated, the brand has been able to create true modern dresses with pure lines in exquisite fabrics.

The House is now run by the husband of the former designer, who once again this season perpetuates the aspirations of the woman who claimed to be a fan of “discreet luxury“.

So to adapt to this particular season, Amsale presents its 5 collections, each containing 10 looks, through a virtual fitting.

This month, we are launching a virtual trial on the site where a user, media or retailer will have the opportunity to try on a garment digitally, or an avatar of their choice that represents their morphology,” said Mr. Brown, husband of the designer, and current CEO of the brand.

It’s a concrete and creative way to imagine yourself in the brand’s most beautiful models, without leaving your living room.

At the previous Bridal Fashion Week, the brand paraded real brides for its “Amsale x You” collection designed by them.

Sahroo recycles old photo shoots

Sarah Abbasi, 29-year-old designer and founder of Sahroo, is inspired for her creations by the matching ensembles worn by women in Pakistan, where she spent part of her childhood. Today, each piece of the line is hand-made there.

The best-selling item at Sarhoo since its creation in 2017 is a white trouser suit, often purchased as an alternative to wedding dresses. The brand is now very present in the sale of ivory and pale pink bridal finery, with huge kaftans and trousers adorned with feathers and crystals.

We have been lucky and have had four photo shoots since our launch last year,” said Sarah Abbasi. “Many of these photos have never been seen. As we can’t present them in person, we will be reusing and recycling photos from previous collections by sharing images from old sets mixed with new ones from previous sessions“.

Last year, the New York designer presented her collection of 25 looks at the Whitby Hotel in Manhattan. She also focused on high-end white pants and matching jewelry sets.
