Doha celebrates jewelry and watches with great ceremony

Doha jewelry and watches exhibition (DJWE) attracted more than 500 prestigious international brands and more than 30,000 visitors from around the world. With exceptional pieces and new services, the event continues to increase its aura.

It is nicknamed “the great Qatari marriage” by the inhabitants of the country. This event is none other than the nineteenth edition of the Doha Jewelry and Watches fair. It was held from 20 to 25 February at the Exhibition and Congress Center in Qatar capital, one of the richest countries in the world thanks to its gas reserves.

Biggest professional and international exhibition in the region, it exhibited more than 500 jewelry and watch brands presented by the most prestigious watchmakers in Qatar and around the world, for a total of 15 countries. On more than 33 000m2, we could find famous names such as Bulgari, Louis Vuitton, Rolex but also local companies.

More than 30 000 visitors, comings from more than 175 countries, survey the exhibition and were able not only admire the jewelry on display, but also enjoyed the two emblematic coffee shop of Qatar Duty Free, Harrod’s Tea Rooms and Venchi, which were present the first time at the DJWE.

New Brands and exceptional pieces

On the discovery side of the exhibition, they were able to discover new brands, collections in limited edition as well as exceptional pieces of exposition.

Among the most notable presentation on the Exhibition was “Fantasy necklace”, adorned with a 2,56 carats monogram diamonds cut in flower by Louis Vuitton or the Valentino limited edition accessories collection bearing the logo of the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) of Qatar, aiming to raise funds for it. But also, the Alif collection, a selection of exceptional high-end and unique jewellery from the regional giant Damascus Jewellery, present for the first time at the Exhibition.

While the second-hand market continues to conquer its stripes in watchmaking, the presence of the famous Phillips auction House, specialized in the art and design of the 20th and 21st centuries, was also to be emphasized. In association with Bacs & Russo, Phillips holds the world record for the highest selling auction of watches.

Another great first: the arrival of IDT Gemological Laboratories, the new partner of the exhibition, allowed customers to have their jewelry examined and certified by an internationally certified institute.

Interviews with experts

The professional character and the international influence of the DJWE have also been reinforce by the installation inside of a studio in which experts in jewelry and watches, relayed by YouTube are interviewed.

Last not the least, the event also highlighted a handful of women, unaccustomed to occupying places highly exposed in Qatar. The Qatari composer, Dana Al Fardan, created the music for the DJWE campaign. While one could distinguish among the exhibitors, only among the professionals of her country, Noora al-Ansari. This former education and oil industry executive launched its jewelry creation company in 2011. Last year, she opened a store called Papillon in one of the most expensive malls in Doha, where he meets prestigious international competitors.

While more and more women are working in Qatar, business women remain a rare species. But does it seem to be developing in the jewelry and watchmaking industry…
