High-end automaker Bugatti recently unveiled the Tourbillon, a new supercar combining power and luxury. This rechargeable hybrid model marks a bold departure from its predecessors, emphasizing performance without sacrificing refinement. With its 1,800 horsepower and high-quality materials, the Tourbillon embodies exclusivity and innovation.
The Bugatti Chiron finally has a replacement, and not the least important one! On Thursday, June 20, at the Château Saint-Jean in Molsheim, the French hyper-sports car manufacturer unveiled its latest creation, the Tourbillon.
This new model represents a bold new direction. Although it is a plug-in hybrid and not fully electric, it combines the brand’s heritage with modern innovations from the Croatian company Rimac, which specializes in high-performance electric cars.
The heart of the Bugatti Tourbillon is its 8.3-liter naturally-aspirated V16 engine, developed by Cosworth, delivering 1,000 horsepower on its own. This engine is coupled to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and an electric motor that develops a further 800 hp.
This combination delivers a total power output of 1,800 hp, making the Tourbillon one of the most powerful cars in the world. Despite the addition of electrical components, the new V16 weighs just 252 kg, far less than the previous W16, which weighed in at over 400 kg.
“The choice of powertrain was undoubtedly the most important decision we had to make. We considered all the options: reworking the W16, choosing an all-electric powertrain or creating something totally new. We chose the most difficult path possible,” explains Bugatti Technical Director Emilio Scervo.
Advanced performance
The Bugatti Tourbillon boasts impressive performance figures: it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2 seconds, reaches 200 km/h in 5 seconds and breaks the 400 km/h barrier in 25 seconds, with a top speed of 445 km/h.
