Say goodbye to Renault and hello to BMW. The famous Bavarian manufacturer is stealing the spotlight from the French brand at the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, from May 17 to 28. After 40 years of official partnership, Renault will no longer carry the stars at the foot of the red carpet and hands over this mission to BMW.

It is the more green profile of the German that benefited him: in a statement, the organizers of the Festival say they have awarded this new official partnership “consistent with the environmental policy” initiated in 2019.

The fleet provided by BMW to ensure the various transfers on the premises, will be composed of 163 hybrid and electric vehicles. In addition to the iX and iX3 SUVs and the large i4 coupe, three examples of the i7, the latest electric 7 Series, inaugurated in 2022, will be in the spotlight.

In 2007, BMW already played a significant supporting role in the Festival by driving the official participants in the Directors’ Fortnight.

60 million euros of spin-offs

For its part, the French manufacturer has announced that it has signed another beautiful partnership…for the moment not yet revealed. The stakes are high. In the past, it had estimated that the economic benefits of its alliance with the Cannes Film Festival were about 60 million euros. That is to say, the consequence of the worldwide buzz generated by the images of its vehicles from which the most famous stars of the big screen were coming out… Of course, Renault had to provide more than 300 cars and make thousands of trips during the whole Festival. But the operation, which did not cost more than 300,000 euros according to a report by RTL broadcast in 2019, proved to be very successful…
