The media reaction to the March 17 announcement of a two-year partnership between the brand Zara and John Galliano, the legendary designer of Dior—who hit rock bottom before being rescued by Maison Margiela, owned by OTB—shows that the deal is not leaving anyone indifferent…

 

But while observers generally agree—with a few caveats—that the move will boost the image of Zara, the subsidiary of the Inditex Group, opinions are more divided regarding the 65-year-old designer, with some seeing it as a nice way to come full circle and others as a sad end to his career…

 

A Redemptive Creation

 

In practice, John Galliano “will reinterpret the brand’s archives through a series of seasonal collections,” the Inditex Group subsidiary explained in a press release. The designer “will work directly with garments from Zara’s past seasons, deconstructing and reconfiguring them into new seasonal expressions and creations. Guided by a couture process and signature, the collections will be released seasonally throughout the partnership beginning in September 2026.”
