The flagship brand of the LVMH group has for the first time affixed a “Made in Portugal” label to a small leather accessory used to store wireless headphones. This is recognition of the quality of production in the country, with which Louis Vuitton has been working for around ten years…
Louis Vuitton comes out in favor of Made in Portugal.
The move has been welcomed by the country’s press, known for its historical expertise in leatherwork (particularly in footwear), its skilled workforce, and its more competitive production costs than those in France or Italy: the flagship LVMH brand has just added the words “Made in Portugal” to a new mini orange leather accessory, a pouch designed to store wireless headphones, available online for €800.
Elevating Portugal to the rank of luxury producer
Revealed by the newspaper Público, a leading daily in Portugal, the news was commented on by the Portuguese Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira, following a visit to the Micam International Footwear Exhibition in Milan, Italy. He sees Louis Vuitton’s recognition of Portuguese craftsmanship as “an important step in raising the country’s profile as a luxury goods producer.”
