The Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Florida, has just been awarded LEED Silver certification by the US Green Building Council for its Vanderbilt Tower. But what is this LEED certification, and why is it so important for modern buildings ?
The LEED label, which stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design”, is one of the most widely recognized green building rating systems in the world. It attests to the complex’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental management.
Key LEED certification criteria : a guarantee of sustainability and performance
Established by the US Green Building Council, this certification is internationally recognized as a guarantee of excellence in building design, construction and management. LEED-certified facilities play a key role in promoting environmental and human health sustainability.
LEED certification is based on a point system. To achieve basic certification, a building must accumulate at least 40 points. LEED Silver certification, awarded to the Ritz-Carlton Naples, is achieved when a building reaches a minimum of 50 points, while LEED Gold and Platinum certifications require a score of at least 60 and 80 points respectively.
