Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week is drawing to a close, and the Fashion sphere is just recovering from its emotions. The designers dazzled with their new collections, rocambolies and novelties. Roger Vivier took the opportunity to present its new collection of couture bags, Viv’ Choc Pièce Unique.

Nicknamed the Fragonard of footwear, Roger Vivier has been perpetuating French excellence, charm and savoir faire since the early days of his brand. Gherardo Felloni, Artistic Director of the House since 2018, has followed in his footsteps, drawing inspiration from the eponymous designer and from France, to create a brand new collection, not of shoes, but of bags.

Gherardo Felloni pays homage to the Vivier archives by naming the Viv’ Choc Pièce Unique collection, an evocation of one of the Maison’s most inspiring shoes: the iridescent feathered Choc heel from 1959. There are other nods too, for example to the Virgule shoes created in 1963, or to the costumes of the Paris Opera Ballet. Finally, the Italian designer drew further inspiration from the City of Light to design this collection of handbags.

Some pieces are nicknamed Eiffel Tower, Versailles or even Marie Antoinette.

Marie Antoinette is perhaps one of my favorites,” said the creative director. “It’s a tribute to Versailles and its gilding, but above all to the historical figure who counted in history, and especially in the history of fashion, for her taste and refinement that still accompany us today.”

Viv’ Choc Pièce Unique is the very definition of Haute Couture and savoir-faire. Comprising 15 entirely hand-designed bags, it showcases the art of various embroidery and textile techniques, with the use of sequins, feathers, crystals and other noble materials.

The Marie Antoinette bag is as representative of the queen as it is of Haute Couture. It’s made from velvet using a couture draping technique that only Gherardo Felloni can master. 500 crystal and feather ornaments were applied by hand: “Through these unique pieces, I wanted to pay tribute to her vision of accessories as an integral part of the silhouette“.

Another, named Catherine de Médicis, is adorned with an abundance of pearls in different shapes and sizes, and looks more like a jewel than a practical accessory.

The other pieces, equally sumptuous and refined, also bear names evocative of French elegance, such as Chandelier, Avenue de Jour, Jardin d’hiver or Joséphine.

This is not the first time that Roger Vivier’s artistic director has played with couture in his creations for the French brand. For the latest Autumn-Winter 2023 collection, he used unique embellishment techniques specific to the House to create boots, bags and hats, pushed to a very high level of sophistication worthy of Haute Couture.
