Last March, the British Fashion Council announced the cancellation of its Men’s Fashion Week to replace it with a mixed season and exclusively digital. This Tuesday, London Fashion Week unveiled the program for its first digital edition, which will take place from 12 to 14 June.
The last Fashion Week ended last March in a courtyard of the Louvre Museum in Paris with a show organised by Louis Vuitton. The fashion industry was unaware at the time that the event might be the last physical fashion show of 2020.
With health conditions precluding the organisation of physical events, the traditional London Fashion Week Men’s in June was replaced by a dedicated digital platform, the theatre of digital events for all genres.
A dense programme
On the programme: virtual showrooms, presentation of new creations, live discussion, short films and podcasts.
To follow this very experimental Fashion Week, just one address is the London Fashion Week website and its new hashtag (#LFWreset). The platform will host content from over one hundred designers as well as cultural institutions and creative people.
All in all, a very dense programme for this 72-hour extended weekend, which includes 51 events. London Fashion Week will start at noon on Friday with a film by James Massiah and will close on Sunday at 8pm with a live virtual presentation from Mulberry.
While most of the content will be previewed, some events will be presented live such as a discussion between GQ editor and president of BCF Menswear, Dylan Jones, and rapper Tinie Tempah.
This unique format has the support of major players in the distribution and fashion industry. Indeed, according to a study by Oxford Economics, fashion is a vital sector for the British economy. It contributes 35 billion pounds or 39.3 billion euros to the UK’s GDP in 2019 and represents 890,000 jobs.
An international influence
On the other side of the Channel, Galeries Lafayette Champs-Élysées has a partnership with the British Fashion Council and will receive ten British designers for an exclusive installation until 19 June.
