Thanksgiving Week Sets Record for New York Luxury Real Estate Sales

The Thanksgiving vacation week gave New York’s high-end real estate agents a lot to do.

Last week, no fewer than 37 contracts were signed for homes worth at least $4 million in New York City. This is the highest number of deals signed during Thanksgiving week since 2006, when Olshan Realty began tracking luxury real estate deals in Manhattan.

Over the past 10 years, the average number of deals signed during Thanksgiving was 12. “We’re talking about a Thanksgiving gorge (…) that’s it !” said Donna Olshan, the report’s author.

The median asking price for the 37 homes was $5.95 million. Almost all of the transactions were for condos; only three were for co-ops and one for a townhouse.

The most expensive was a duplex in the Edward J. Minskoff Equities project at 17 Jane Street in the West Village. The last asking price for this unit was $31.9 million. The second-highest asking price among the 37 deals was $28 million for an 11-room, four-bedroom prewar co-op on the fourth floor of the luxury building at 960 Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park.
