On July 21, Tapestry announced the appointment of Jonathan Saunders as executive creative director of Kate Spade; he is expected to assume the position on August 26, 2026.
Unlike other brands in the group, such as Coach, which is experiencing strong growth, Kate Spade is going through a more challenging period. The group’s management wants to reposition the brand to return to sustainable growth, even if this means sacrificing profitability.
Jonathan Saunders, a Scottish designer well-known in the luxury sector, represents an important strategic asset for the brand. With a rich and eclectic career that has taken him through houses such as Alexander McQueen, Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein, Tiffany & Co., and Emilio Pucci, the designer has forged his own visual and creative identity. Like many other designers, he founded his eponymous brand in 2003 and served as creative director at & Other Stories. Saunders will now join Kate Spade to oversee the brand’s entire creative vision—including collection design, leather goods, ready-to-wear, footwear, and accessories—as well as its overall visual identity.
A strategic appointment full of promise
