Swiss watch exports get a breather in February

Sales of Swiss watches rebounded in February, driven by the United States, France, and Japan, as well as high-end models. Some, however, see this as merely a pause as the outlook darkens amid the conflict in the Middle East.

 

A temporary bright spot as the macroeconomic outlook is clouded by the conflict in the Middle East?

 

After a 1.7% decline in value in January,Swiss watch exports rebounded by 9.2% to 2.2 billion Swiss francs in February, according to the Swiss Watch Federation (FH).

 

Very strong growth in the three main markets

However, the FH acknowledges that while “a favorable base effect partially influenced this result, it was above all the very strong growth in three of the main markets that tipped the balance.” Namely the United States, France, and Japan.
