The Swiss luxury watchmaker unveils Super AVI, a new collection of timepieces that celebrates the history of aviation by drawing inspiration from vintage aircraft design.

Swiss watchmaker Breitling‘s new collection will take you to new heights. It is inspired not only by the 1953 Co-Pilot but also by four legendary World War II fighter planes. “This collection symbolises that nostalgic feeling that harks back to the early days of aviation, when the watch was the indispensable tool of the pilot on board,” said Breitling CEO Georges Kern. “However, this exceptional craftsmanship and robust design is not just for pilots and vintage aircraft enthusiasts.

The collection is available in five unique versions paying tribute to four legendary and memorable aircraft, whose silhouettes appear in filigree on the sapphire casebacks of the chronographs.

The Super AVI P-51 Mustang pays homage to the best of the fighter planes of the time through two distinct versions: one with a stainless steel case with a black dial and a golden brown leather strap, and the other in 18-carat red gold, with an anthracite dial and a black leather strap. This second version is only available in the group’s boutiques and on the website.

The second watch, the Super AVI Tribute to Vought F4U Corsair, is inspired by the characteristic livery of the military aircraft. It features a blue dial, toned chronograph counters and a black strap.

With its military green dial, contrasting white chronograph counters and red detailing, the third watch, the Super AVI Curtis Warhawk, takes the shark’s jaw design that adorned its namesake’s head and gives it a unique identity.

The final watch in the collection, the Super AVI Mosquito, features a polished and satin-finished black ceramic bezel and a black dial with contrasting white chronograph counters. Its red and orange details recall the military roundels and markings on this versatile device, dubbed the “wooden wonder”.

“Our watchmaking DNA has had a predominant influence on this collection, while the interpretations of these four aircraft give it an emotional dimension and bold graphic appeal,” says Sylvain Berneron, Breitling’s artistic director.
