Swiss watchmaker Rolex has kicked off 2022 by raising the prices of some of its iconic models.
Some of the watchmaker’s iconic timepieces have seen their prices increase as of 1 January 2022. Indeed, the 41mm stainless steel Oyster Perpetual model, priced at $5,900 in 2021, would now sell for $6,150 on the US market, an increase of around 4.2% on this model.
As another example, the Submariner model, which will be priced at $8,100 in 2021, is currently selling for $8,950 in the US market. This model has seen an increase of 10.5%.
“Prices have gone up 30 percent almost everywhere, not just for the Rolex ‘Regular’ models but for everything from women’s models to Datejusts and Cellinis,” Tim Stracke, co-CEO of Chrono24, told Robb Report.
It is also becoming increasingly difficult to get a Rolex timepiece on both the second-hand and new markets. However, Rolex said of the low supply, that it was not an intentional shortage.
“Our current production cannot meet the existing demand in full, at least not without reducing the quality of our watches – which we refuse to do because the quality of our products should never be compromised,” Rolex said.
