For the past week, Peru has been rocked by a major political scandal involving President Dina Boluarte. The leader is under investigation for acts of corruption and illicit enrichment, notably revealed by her possession of Rolex watches and valuable jewelry.
Peru is currently rocked by a major political scandal, known as the “Rolex Gate”, involving President Dina Boluarte. Recent raids on her home and office have fuelled suspicions of corruption and illicit enrichment.
Dina Boluarte is under investigation for illicit enrichment, notably for her possession of several valuable Rolex watches, as well as designer jewelry, which seem to be at odds with her relatively modest income as a senior civil servant.
On Friday April 5, the Peruvian president was questioned by prosecutors for almost five hours. Peru’s Attorney General Juan Villena is also examining several suspicious bank deposits.
“The charges have been extended to include possession of a Cartier brand bracelet said to be worth $50,000. The jewelry worn by the President would exceed the sum of $500,000,” he said.
