Yesterday, Raf Simons paraded outside the calendar to present his fall-winter 2021-2022 collection, on notes of electronic music.
After presenting a collection imagining the “fashion after” with Miuccia Prada during the last Fashion Week, a few weeks ago, Raf Simons unveils the fall-winter collection of his label, thus dispelling the concerns of his fans, who feared that they would no longer see a personal collection of the fashion designer.
For this occasion, the Belgian designer returned to the classics that made the brand, which Raf Simons founded in 1995, what it is today. Knitwear, oversize, quilted jackets…the designer revisits his favorites to integrate them into men’s and women’s wardrobes. “Oversize here creates a new language where clothes can adopt different functions that translate into it, between men and women,” he explains.
To the notes of the famous German band Kraftwerk, precursors of electronic music, Raf Simons scrolls his silhouettes in an atomic atmosphere. “Their music has shaped me as much as it has shaped my work – it is electronic and technological, but at the same time has always retained a humanity at its core,” Raf Simons details.
The color palette is very varied and the yellow symbol of radioactivity is omnipresent in the collection. In addition, the designer transports us to the seventies by signing the great return of the mullet. “The collection is about things I love – things I’ve always loved, which are always present in each collection, in the processes behind it and in the clothes,” he said.
During the film showing the collection, six words punctuate the models’ passage through this nuclear power plant setting: Ataraxia, equanimity, dichotomy, synchronicity, allegiance, and devotion. They can be found on the collars of knitted sweaters and shirts. The designer paid special attention to jewelry, and an amazing bracelet is present on almost every arm: the skeleton hand bracelet.
