German luxury carmaker Porsche has been named official partner for the 2024 edition of the prestigious Met Gala. For the event, the brand will showcase the new Macan electric SUV. This collaboration underlines the growing alliance between luxury automobiles and the fashion industry.
Every year, fashion and pop culture enthusiasts eagerly await this event, which puts Haute Couture in the spotlight.
Porsche’s American arm, Porsche Cars North America, Inc. announced on Tuesday, April 23, that its new electric SUV, the Macan, has been named the official electric vehicle of the highly anticipated Met Gala 2024, to be held on May 6.
This collaboration will offer selected guests the exclusive opportunity to experience the cutting-edge Macan EV up close. They will have the opportunity to discover Porsche’s latest innovation on their way to and from the gala.
“Porsche and fashion are linked, and have been for decades,” points out Ayesha Coker, Porsche’s Vice President of Marketing. “And the all-electric Macan will be no different, offering an unparalleled level of customization to be as bold and unique as each of our customers. The collaboration with the Met Gala is the perfect setting to showcase the Macan’s striking new design, as it is a must-attend event in the fashion world.”
The Met Gala is a highly anticipated annual event that raises funds for the Costume Institute of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. As part of this initiative, Porsche will make a substantial financial donation to the Costume Institute to strengthen and support its artistic initiatives.
Collaboration with Vogue
At the same time, Porsche is teaming up with Vogue to produce a branded content series entitled “True Essence”, with an episode featuring Catherine Holstein, Khaite’s founder and creative director.
Through this collaboration, Porsche will showcase the Macan in digital and print ads, as well as other branded content on Vogue’s social and digital platforms.
During the Met Gala festivities, Porsche will also launch a celebration of fashion and design at Soho House New York, featuring actor Barry Keoghan and a live musical performance by British singer-songwriter RAYE. The Macan will be displayed alongside the new Taycan in an art installation outside Soho House, shortly after its global launch.
Cars and fashion come together
Revered as one of the most important events in the fashion world, the Met Gala attracts celebrities to present bold creations from the most esteemed fashion houses. Its collaboration with Porsche illustrates the intersection of luxury automobiles and haute couture.
Meanwhile, Genesis, a luxury brand in the Hyundai Motor Group, has a long-standing relationship with Vogue, although it is not sponsoring this year’s Paris event.
By partnering with the Met Gala and Vogue, Porsche not only affirms its presence in the fashion landscape, but also underlines its commitment to supporting the arts through this dynamic collaboration.
