The famous Milan Furniture Fair returns tomorrow in the Lombardy capital, and this until next Sunday. This 61st edition marks a return to normal with more than 300 000 visitors expected. The opportunity to discover the fashion and design trends of this year 2023.
After a limited 2021 edition, and another one shifted to June last year, the Milan Furniture Fair (Salone del Mobile Milano) is once again asserting itself this year as one of the most trendy design festivals of the moment.
With nearly 2,000 exhibitors, Milan welcomes the world of design and furniture for a week, within the walls of the Roh Fiera pavilions. But also in the maze of streets. The Fuori Salone, the “off” calendar, offers hundreds of initiatives throughout the city, with the number of districts dedicated to design increasing this year from seven to ten. This parallel framework is an opportunity for fashion and furniture brands to unveil exclusive collections and events, which oscillate between fashion and design.
A rich and diversified program
This show, so eagerly awaited by the design and furniture sector, brings together every year all the novelties of the furniture world. A true showcase of creativity, in 2023 it will welcome 1 962 exhibitors, including more than 550 talents under the age of 35, as well as 28 design schools.
The program includes dozens of exhibitions organized by architecture studios and other design players, conferences led by experts who will answer questions from journalists from around the world, two round tables and workshops. A large installation by Maurizio Nannucci, one of the leading interpreters of artificial light in contemporary art, will be presented to the audience.

The Fair also hosts a bookstore specializing in design, art and illustration, as well as a bistro and restaurant designed by Piero Lissoni, an Italian architect and designer.
Reserved during the week for journalists and professionals, the Salon will open its doors to the general public during the weekend. The space has been redesigned to enhance the public’s enjoyment and experience, with the event being set up on a single floor. And a new feature is being introduced this year: interactive orientation. Visitors will be able to create their own personalized itinerary by visiting the show’s app.

When fashion and design become one
Since 2007, the most fashionable fashion houses have set up their own Design Week, in parallel with the Milan Furniture Fair, with a rich calendar. This year, 30 brands are participating in the event, called Milano Moda Design, with some 50 events. Exhibitions, collaborations, conferences, cocktails and presentations of new collections, there is something for every taste and color.
Each participating company invests a place in the Lombardy capital with a concept and new products. Hermès returns to the emblematic La Pelota to present its House collection. Louis Vuitton will be at Palazzo Serbelloni to unveil its Nomadic Objects line and a special project with Australian designer Marc Newson.
Dolce & Gabbana gave carte blanche to ten young designers from around the world, invited in residence to learn about Italian know-how. Bottega Veneta combines luxury, fashion and design by entrusting the walls of its store to the artist Gaetano Pesce, who has designed an immersive installation in connection with the new bag collection, inspired by his own work. For its part, Dior continues its collaboration with the famous French industrial designer Philippe Starck.
Some novelties will also be presented and imagined for this special fashion/design week.
Giorgio Armani installs its House line for the first time in its historic headquarters, located in Palazzo Orsini. Elie Saab unveils his new home collection in five different locations. Etro presents its first ever furniture collection, designed and signed by the House’s artistic director, Marco de Vincenzo. And the famous shoemaker Jimmy Choo has teamed up with Murano glass master Venini for a collection of vases, presented in his Milanese store.
And these are just a few examples of what will be presented throughout the week in one of the world’s fashion capitals. Smaller companies and designers such as Serapian, Fila, Benetton and Timberland will also be exhibiting their new products, combining fashion and home.
