Hong Kong-based Solos Technology has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Meta and EssilorLuxottica, claiming that their famous smart glasses infringe on several of its technology patents.
A major legal battle has just begun in the United States between Solos Technology and EssilorLuxottica and Meta. The lawsuit, which was filed in early January in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts, could have significant financial and strategic repercussions for both groups.
Patented technology used without authorization
According to Solos Technology’s complaint, Meta and EssilorLuxottica have incorporated technologies protected by at least five patents previously filed by the startup into their smart glasses. These patents cover essential innovations in the field of connected glasses, such as multimodal detection systems, audio processing, user interaction and contextualization tools, as well as hardware and software architectures enabling real-time interaction.
The complaint lists several models of augmented reality glasses as being affected, including different generations of Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer, as well as products from the Oakley Meta brand owned by EssilorLuxottica.
