Australian actress and producer Margot Robbie, Chanel muse since 2018, becomes the new face of the legendary N°5 fragrance. Succeeding icons such as Nicole Kidman and Marion Cotillard, she continues the tradition that links Chanel to the great figures of cinema.
Margot Robbie, the charismatic Australian actress and producer, is about to write a new chapter in her collaboration with Chanel. Since entering the House’s universe in 2018 as fashion muse, she has captivated audiences with her beauty, elegance and dramatic intensity. Face of the Gabrielle essence fragrance in 2019, she then embodies the image of the iconic J12 watch in 2021.
Today, she transcends this role by becoming the face of Chanel’s most iconic fragrance, N°5.
Margot Robbie x Chanel
In becoming the face of N°5, 34-year-old Robbie succeeds such iconic figures from film and fashion as Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard and Catherine Deneuve, all of whom have helped forge the fragrance’s legend. The launch of the new Chanel N°5 advertising campaign starring Margot Robbie is scheduled for October 2024, marking a new chapter in the saga of this iconic fragrance.
A woman of many facets, Margot Robbie is not just an actress: she’s a successful businesswoman, who at 27 was the youngest actress-producer to sign a Hollywood contract. An avid surfer, she is also a committed woman, particularly as an active member of Greenpeace.
Launched in 1921 by Gabrielle Chanel and designed by perfumer Ernest Beaux, N°5 marked a revolution in perfumery thanks to its bold, innovative blend of aldehydes and rare flowers, notably jasmine and rose. This complex fragrance seduced women the world over and defied the conventions of the time. It is synonymous with modernity and avant-gardism, while conveying a heritage deeply rooted in the history of French luxury.
Its minimalist bottle, both simple and refined, has become a symbol of the elegance and modernism of the 1920s.
More than a century after its creation, N°5 continues to dominate the world market, with a bottle sold every 30 seconds.
A cinema icon
Margot Robbie now embodies this duality: she symbolizes both the continuity of a tradition that goes back over 100 years, and the opening to a new era for N°5 fragrance.
The Gold Coast-born Australian actress and producer got her start in the sitcoms of the 2000s with Neighbours, but her iconic role as the manipulative wife of stockbroker Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), in which she co-stars opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, has definitively taken her out of the crowd of scatterbrained beauties. It was a composition role that she landed by audaciously slapping the Titanic star in the face at the audition. Immediately after her spectacular Hollywood breakthrough, director Martin Scorcese praised the intensity of her acting, with its “emotional audacity”, comic talent and recklessness. She went on to assert herself in a variety of roles, playing the wild Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad (2016), then delivering an acclaimed performance as Tonya Harding in Me, Tonya (2017), which earned her a Best Actress Oscar nomination.
Versatile, she also shone in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019) under the direction of Quentin Tarantino and more recently in the global phenomenon Barbie (2023), where she proved her iconic status.
With Barbie, the box office success of the summer blockbuster 2023 ($1.2 billion in receipts), Barbie directed by Greta Gerwig, co-produced by her production company Luckychap Entertainment, she became one of Hollywood’s most powerful businesswomen, with $50 million in salary and profit sharing.
Margot Robbie has already been associated with other major fashion and beauty brands such as Calvin Klein. Her latest role as the face of Chanel N°5 sees her sharing the limelight with a perfume star. She joins 21-year-old actress Whitney Peak, muse of Coco Mademoiselle fragrance, at Chanel since March 2023.
