With the Louis Vuitton Watch Prize for Independent Creatives, Louis Vuitton is launching an innovative new prize to reward independence in the watchmaking industry.

The work of independent watchmakers is sometimes overshadowed by that of the major luxury brands, which have an international reputation. But Louis Vuitton has decided to reverse the trend and honor the work of small watchmakers.

The brand with the LV monogram is well aware of the value of independence in this sector. It has a Geneva-based manufacture that operates as an independent workshop, with 20 master watchmakers at its helm, called the Fabrique du Temps.

And it’s partly because its Fabrique du Temps knows all the codes that Louis Vuitton launched a special prize last Friday that rewards independence in watchmaking design.

Watchmaking is not a dormant industry; it is not inaccessible. Young watch lovers are a generation of enthusiasts who look forward to discovering innovations in the market. This is why we want to create this event at the heart of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton,” said Jean Arnault, head of Louis Vuitton’s watch division.

The Louis Vuitton Watch Prize will be organized every two years. Its objective is to encourage watchmaking innovation and highlight the dedication of artisans. It is open to all independent creators: watchmakers, entrepreneurs, designers, young graduates etc. The first condition is that they must present a timepiece imagined and designed by them. The winner will receive a financial reward and a one-year mentorship at the heart of La Fabrique du temps.

How to participate?

To enter the competition, you must register between January and May 2023 on the website dedicated to the submission of applications, by submitting your own portfolio.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of international experts who will select 20 semi-finalists in September 2023. The panel of experts will then nominate five finalists after reviewing their profiles based on criteria such as design and technical complexity.

The winner will be announced in January 2024 and will have the opportunity to discover all the secrets of the Louis Vuitton Time Factory. He or she will also benefit from advice on communication and marketing strategy from an ad hoc team.
