Kering Eyewear has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the capital of the French company UNT. It is one of the leading suppliers in the manufacture of high precision components.

Kering Eyewear, a subsidiary of the French luxury group, has been designing and manufacturing eyewear for 17 brands such as Lindberg, Gucci, Cartier, Balenciaga, Alaïa and many others since 2014. This new acquisition, which aims to strengthen its position in the luxury eyewear industry, was not chosen at random.

Since its creation in 1989, UNT has played a key role in the manufacture of metal mechanical components for the entire luxury eyewear sector. Thanks to its know-how and state-of-the-art facilities, the company located in the Haut-Jura region has been a symbol of incomparable product quality in this sector since its inception.

Kering, the French luxury leader, has been developing its eyewear subsidiary for six years now. In 2017, it acquired Manufacture Kering Eyewear (formerly Manufacture Cartier eyewear), and then in 2019, took a stake in Trenti Industria Occhiali in Italy (Italian company specializing in the retail of luxury goods). And the acquisition of UNT represents another important step in Kering Eyewear’s industrial development strategy.

Kering Eyewear works with the best manufacturers in the industry to ensure the highest quality and technical expertise. Prior to its acquisition, UNT was already a long-time partner of Kering Eyewear. Both companies share the same vision and interests in terms of sustainability, know-how and innovation.

We are delighted to welcome UNT to the Kering Eyewear family. I deeply admire the extraordinary work UNT has done to date and we look forward to beginning this new adventure with this important and trusted partner. This acquisition of a long-standing, high-quality supplier to Kering Eyewear represents an opportunity to develop an integrated platform in the world of luxury eyewear, benefiting from best-in-class manufacturing processes, equipment and talent, while supporting and enhancing the know-how of the Jura region,” said Roberto Vedovotto, CEO of Kering Eyewear.

Before UNT becomes an integral part of the group, the transaction will have to be submitted to the relevant competition authorities for approval and is expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2023.
