The top 1,000 best hotels in the world have just been revealed in the La Liste ranking. And the gold medal goes to the Hotel Cipriani in Venice (Belmond), with an excellent score of 99.75 out of 100.
For a hotel or restaurant, appearing in the La Liste ranking is like a consecration. As you can read on its website, it has established itself as the digital guide to gastronomy and travel that is a practical reference.
For the first time since its creation in 2015, and this after listing restaurants, La Liste unveils its ranking of the world’s best hotels, selecting over 5,500 hotels in more than 200 countries. To do this, the company uses an algorithm that weights over 300 travel guides, rankings, press articles and customer reviews.

Several prizewinners, one winner
While the United States dominates the ranking with the largest number of establishments, France also makes its mark with more than 80 hotels in the world’s top 1,000. Unsurprisingly, these include Parisian palaces such as La Réserve and Le Meurice (tied 3rd), followed by Le Bristol (4th) and Cheval Blanc and Plaza Athénée (tied 5th). Paris is said to be the most beautiful city in the world, so its exceptional establishments also do well.
But the big winner in this ranking is none other than the Cipriani, a Belmond Hotel, located on the island of Giudecca in Venice.
Nestled in one of the world’s most beautiful cities, with its many canals, this hotel has nurtured its legend through the parade of public figures it has welcomed: Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, George Clooney and Angelina Jolie.
In this establishment, everything has been designed to seduce guests. From the Venetian style of the 96 rooms to the Olympic-size swimming pool, wellness center and Michelin-starred restaurant.
Major hotel trends
The List has also identified some major trends in the hotel industry.
- Hyper-luxury: “luxury hotels are opening even more luxurious annexes, renovating at great expense and building without limit. Witness the opening of Atlantis The Royal, Cheval Blanc Paris and Bulgari Paris“, says La Liste.
- Discreet luxury: “This transversal trend implies authenticity but exclusivity, digital detoxification and self-reflection, a search for meaning“.
- The new nomadism: since the end of the pandemic, travelers have been looking for a multitude of new concepts such as glamping-between glamour and camping-with tree houses, bubbles in the forest or even huts.
- Instagram: social networks have become like a catalog for hotels, even turning photos into bookings.
- Sustainability and eco-responsibility: “while many customers are not yet ready to change their habits and demands, some pioneering hotels have already embraced well-thought-out environmental intransigence“.
- Authenticity: “Respect for places, heritage, surrounding communities and an entire environmental ecosystem are at the heart of the most fashionable hotel experiences”, observes La Liste.
