In association with the Italian brand Vespa, Dior unveils the limited edition Vespa 946 Christian Dior and a range of coordinated accessories. This edition will go on sale in the spring of 2021.

In a joint statement, the two companies state that this collaboration is rooted in “the spirit of freedom, movement and expression”.

This exceptional scooter, whose saddle is decorated with the Oblique Dior motif, will be on display by 2021 in Dior boutiques around the world and then in a selection of Motoplex outlets in Piaggio, which is known in particular for its production of Vespa scooters.

The Dior shops will also offer accessories, including a matching helmet and a top case specially designed to be attached to the luggage rack.

“In these unprecedented times, it’s great to be able to dream of a better future. Dior opened its doors in 1946 in Paris, the same year the Vespa made its debut in Italy. This new Vespa 946 celebrates this anniversary and honors our heritage,” said Michele Colaninno, CEO of the Immsi Group holding company and Piaggio’s Chief Product and Strategy Officer.

Through this partnership, the luxury house reaffirms its affinity with Italian culture, as the cruise collection in Lecce scheduled for May 9 has been cancelled due to the pandemic.

Dior’s Creative Director for Women’s Collections, who designed the limited edition Vespa 946, mentions the Vespa’s defining character in Rome by recounting Audrey Hepburn’s escapade on the back of Gregory Peck’s scooter in the 1953 film Roman Holidays.

“I have so many happy memories on a Vespa. That’s how my husband and I used to travel to Rome and go to the seaside in Fregene. It is a symbol of Italianity that is intimately linked to my personal history and is now part of my professional life at Dior”.

The President and CEO of Dior Couture, Pietro Beccari, also recalls the fascination of the brand’s founder, Christian Dior, for the Italian Riviera in the 1950s.

“The Dolce Vita lifestyle has never ceased to infuse its spirit of elegance into its haute couture models, a sunny magic that, today more than ever, is perpetuated in the collections of Maria Grazia Chiuri,” he said.
