The Audi Q4 e-tron, a zero-emission car, has been named Green Car of the Year 2022 at the Green Car Awards, which recognises environmentally friendly brands and their electric vehicles. This is a further step in the automotive sector’s efforts to adapt to the fight against climate change, while at the same time COP26 is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.
“This is a well-deserved victory for Audi and its outstanding Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal. “Audi has shown a strong commitment to electrification with a growing number of plug-in hybrid and fully electric models. The all-new Q4 e-tron is particularly important because it offers drivers a premium electric crossover SUV with zero emissions at an affordable price.”
The selection of the Green Car of the Year Award winner was made by a panel of judges consisting of automotive experts, Green Car Journal’s staff, as well as leaders of international energy efficiency and environmental organisations. The Green Car of the Year award was established in 2005 and has since expanded to recognise a growing number of ‘greener’ vehicles in categories that are important to consumers.
In addition to the Audi Q4 e-tron, several other vehicles have been awarded in various categories. The Chevrolet Bolt EUV was named the Urban Green Car of 2022, thanks to its city-friendly handling and 247-mile range. The Tesla Model S Plaid was also among the winners, this time for the 2022 Green Performance Car award, thanks to its 1020 horsepower engine and 0-60 mph acceleration in 1.9 seconds. Finally, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 was named the 2022 Green SUV, a vehicle that features a stylish design, as well as a spacious interior and an electric range of up to 300 miles.
