Australia : Trump Tower Project Sparks Controversy on the Gold Coast

Billed as a symbol of global luxury and set to become Australia’s tallest skyscraper, the Trump Tower project on the Gold Coast is already sparking controversy.

 

The project is called the Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast and marks the American real estate group’s entry into the Australian market. Led by local developer David Young in partnership with the Trump Organization, it calls for the construction of a 91-story tower rising to approximately 335 to 340 meters, which would make it the tallest building in the country.

 

Located in Surfers Paradise, a major tourist destination in Queensland, the building is set to house a luxury hotel, several hundred high-end residences, as well as retail spaces, restaurants, and recreational facilities.

 

Estimated at nearly 1.5 billion Australian dollars, the project aims to redefine the standards of seaside luxury in Australia, with high-end amenities and a wealthy international clientele in its sights. But the Trump name is causing some unease locally…
