Valentino Garavani, the Italian fashion emperor, has passed away at the age of 93

This giant of Italian fashion had been at the helm of haute couture for almost 50 years, a record longevity. He leaves behind his legacy of Valentino red, a certain vision of women, classic but enhancing their silhouettes, and a fashion house now in the hands of the Qatari group Mayhoola and Kering.

While these concepts are now considered outdated in some fashion and luxury houses, Valentino Garavani managed to embody them brilliantly and consistently until the very end. Even after putting down his scissors.
